Poggio al Commessario

Organic – Igt Toscana Rosso

Blend of Sangiovese (60%) Cabernet Sauvignon (20%), and Merlot (20%).

The vineyards are Cessa del Civettaio and Poggio al Commessario (Commessario means policeman – Maremma was a land of bandits). The grapes are picked by hand and carefully selected directly in the vineyards in different times, first merlot, last cabernet. The grapes arrive in the cellar, transported in small cases, where they are pressed.

Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats and in oak tanks. At the end of the malolactic fermentation the wines are put together and aged in oak and in bottle. We do not filter the wines before bottling.

As opposed to the Sangiovese, Poggio al Commessario is my “international” wine, a SuperTuscan old style. Very pleasant to drink, soft, round body. Perfect for full lunch or aperitivo with salame and cheese.
